Ascot Brick Works, Heritage brickworks in Ascot, Western Australia.
Ascot Brick Works is an industrial complex with multiple brick kilns and tall chimney stacks positioned on Grandstand Road across from the Ascot Racecourse. The site features various production buildings and ancillary structures arranged to show the layout of an early 20th century brick manufacturing operation.
Operations began in 1910 as a pottery works under Piercy and Pitman, then H L Brisbane & Co took over in 1930 and expanded production significantly. Further kilns were added in the following years to meet rising demand for bricks across the growing region.
The works embodies the industrial trade that defined the neighborhood, with skilled craftspeople operating the kilns and shaping clay into finished products. The scale of the structures shows how central this manufacturing was to Ascot's identity and employment for many decades.
The site is accessible throughout the year and offers good views of the industrial structures from the road and surrounding areas. Visitors should note that parts of the site may be restricted for safety reasons, so it is best to view the structures from designated vantage points.
The two original kilns were fired by wood and coal, requiring constant feeding of fuel by workers throughout the day. When Ernie Banks designed and built additional kilns in 1934, they modernized the operation and allowed the facility to increase its output significantly.
