Dumas House, Government office building in West Perth, Australia.
Dumas House is a 14-story government office building in West Perth with a distinctive structural design. Horizontal concrete slabs project beyond the window walls and are supported by columns faced with black granite at 2 Havelock Street.
The building was completed in 1965 as the only government tower actually built from an original masterplan for five structures. Its design won a national architectural competition in 1961, setting it apart from the unrealized proposals.
The building honors Sir Russell Dumas through its name, chosen in 1978 to recognize his leadership. His role as head of public works shaped how government buildings were designed and constructed in the state.
The building houses several Western Australian government departments and underwent major renovations between 2012 and 2018. These upgrades improved facilities throughout the structure for better functionality and comfort.
The building features special thermal adaptations with horizontal concrete slabs designed to shield against intense Australian sunlight. This thoughtful design was a practical response to the harsh climate conditions of the region.
