Barracks Arch, Gothic Revival building in Perth, Australia
The three-story Barracks Arch features a Tudor-style entrance with locally sourced brick construction and stands at the western end of St Georges Terrace.
Built between 1863 and 1866, the structure served as accommodation for the Enrolled Pensioner Force members who guarded convict ships arriving in Western Australia.
The building represents the colonial military heritage of Western Australia through its architectural elements and the historical role in the region's development.
The structure maintains its position at the intersection of Malcolm and Elder Streets, where visitors can examine the preserved architectural details.
Parliamentary votes in 1961 protected the structure from demolition plans related to Mitchell Freeway construction, following strong public support for preservation.
