Watheroo National Park, Nature reserve in Shire of Moora, Australia.
Watheroo National Park is a nature reserve in the Shire of Moora region that covers approximately 60,000 hectares. The landscape features low heath vegetation, Banksia woodlands, and Mallee scrub that extends down to the banks of the Moore River.
The area originated as a large private estate established in 1851, which later passed into the care of a Benedictine community. This transition from private land to protected parkland shaped how the area developed over time.
The park sits on traditional Aboriginal lands where indigenous groups developed deep knowledge of the landscape over countless generations. This heritage remains woven into the place through its Aboriginal name and how the land is cared for today.
The park offers marked walking trails and camping facilities suited to different interests and fitness levels. Spring is the best time to visit, when wildflowers bloom and weather conditions are ideal for outdoor activities.
The area contains Jingemia Cave, a notable rock formation that visitors can explore within the park boundaries. It also borders the Pinjarrega Nature Reserve and spans across three separate regional districts.
