Zebaoth Church, Protestant church in Bogor City, Indonesia
Gereja Zebaoth is a Protestant church building in Bogor featuring Neo-Gothic architectural style with a rooster symbol crowning its roof. Located on Ir H Djuanda Street, the structure displays careful craftsmanship typical of colonial-era construction.
The church was founded in 1920 when the Governor-General J.P. Graaf van Limburg Stirum placed the first stone with a biblical inscription. This founding moment reflected the role of religious institutions in colonial governance and community development.
The nickname "Gereja Ayam" (Chicken Church) comes from the rooster figure at the top of the building. Services were held in Dutch until 1962, when Indonesian became the language of worship; the congregation was long called the Nederlansche spreken gemeente. Since then the parish has founded twelve new congregations, including those in Sawangan, Cibinong and Sentul.
The church holds regular Protestant services and welcomes visitors during opening hours at its location on Ir H Djuanda Street. You can learn more about the congregation and its activities by speaking with members present on site.
The church is nicknamed "Gereja Ayam" (Chicken Church) because a rooster figure sits at the very top of the building. The name refers to the weathervane-like emblem above the tower, not to the cross visible on the pyramidal roof.
