Pantai Senggigi, Beach in West Lombok Regency, Indonesia.
Pantai Senggigi is a stretch of beach along the Indian Ocean on the western side of Lombok with light sand and shallow sections in the water. Rocks divide smaller coves from each other, and coral patches sit close to the shore.
In the 1970s, fishermen lived along this coast in small villages without hotels or restaurants. Tourism began a decade later when the first guesthouses were built and travelers started coming across from Bali.
The name Senggigi comes from the Sasak language and refers to a plant that once grew along the coast. Fishermen still pull their boats onto the sand and sell their morning catch directly to visitors and restaurants.
The main road runs parallel to the beach and connects several access points to the water. Shade is limited, so many visitors bring sun protection or rent umbrellas at the beach.
The sunset here is different from the east coast of Lombok because the sun sets over the ocean and behind the silhouette of Bali. Some sections have black volcanic sand that mixes with the lighter sand.
