South Buton

South Buton Regency spans across 546 square kilometers of land area, encompassing 17 islands including Kadatua, Siompu, and Batu Abas in the Flores Sea.

The establishment of South Buton as an independent regency occurred in July 2014 through Act No.16, separating it from the original Buton Regency administrative structure.

The districts of South Buton maintain traditional farming and fishing practices while integrating multiple ethnic groups who speak different languages including Wolio and Cia-Cia.

The administrative center of Batauga connects seven districts through a network of local roads, supporting transportation between communities and commercial activities.

The region contains numerous mineral deposits, particularly natural asphalt reserves that serve as alternatives to petroleum-based bitumen for construction applications.
