Cape Banks lighthouse, Maritime navigation structure in Carpenter Rocks, Australia
Cape Banks lighthouse is a navigation structure built from local limestone featuring an orange-red tower topped with a white lantern room. The structure rises approximately 15 meters and commands views over the rocky coastline at Carpenter Rocks.
The lighthouse was built in 1883 and received its lantern room from an earlier demolished structure. The tower was reinforced and extended to its current height in 1928.
The structure earned its place on the South Australian Heritage Register for its role in the maritime development of the region.
Access is via a sealed road to Carpenter Rocks, followed by an unsealed path for the final section of the journey. Visitors should be prepared for basic paths and coastal conditions.
The lantern room has a rare fourteen-sided design that is seldom found in Australia. This unusual geometry sets it apart from most other lighthouses in the country.
