Dandenong Ranges National Park, Nature reserve in City of Knox, Australia
Dandenong Ranges National Park is a nature reserve east of Melbourne featuring dense mountain forests, waterfalls, and numerous walking trails. The landscape is marked by steep volcanic hills covered in tall trees.
The area was established as a park in 1982 and includes remains of the former Doongalla Homestead from 1890. The property was destroyed by fire in 1932, leaving visible traces in the landscape.
The land was home to the Wurundjeri people, whose cultural connection to this place remains strong today. As you walk through the park, you can sense the deep relationship between the people and the landscape.
The park has five picnic areas with grills, parking, tables, and restrooms for day visitors. Plan your visit in advance to choose the best route and picnic spot for your needs.
The park is home to Mountain Ash trees, the tallest flowering plants in the world, which shape the forest with their impressive height. This concentration of towering trees is a rare natural feature rarely found elsewhere.
