State Basketball Centre, Sports complex in Wantirna South, Australia
The State Basketball Centre is a large indoor sports facility in Wantirna South, in the southeastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The building contains multiple courts spread across several floors, serving both competitive games and training sessions at the same time.
The centre opened in 2012 with a smaller set of courts than it has today. A major expansion completed in 2024 added new courts and brought the overall capacity of the building to a much higher level.
The State Basketball Centre is the home arena of Melbourne United and the Melbourne Boomers, two of Australia's top professional basketball teams. On match days, fans fill the stands and the energy inside the building is easy to notice.
The site has a large car park on site, making it easy to arrive by car. Opening hours vary depending on what is scheduled, so it is worth checking in advance whether a match or training session is taking place on the day you plan to visit.
Although it is known as a professional arena, the centre is also regularly used by community clubs and recreational players throughout the week. This means the courts are rarely empty, and on any given day you might find casual games running alongside serious training sessions.
