Bushy Park Wetlands

Bushy Park Wetlands is a 30-hectare nature reserve in Glen Waverley with permanent water sources and natural habitats along Dandenong Creek. The site supports more than 150 bird species and a variety of native animals that thrive across the water and grassland areas.

The land was originally inhabited by the Woiworung Aboriginal people before Reverend James Clow established a pastoral lease in the 1840s and named the place Bushy Park. This early livestock farming shaped the landscape for many generations.

A bird-watching hide allows visitors to observe pelicans, spoonbills, herons, and egrets that live in the water and around the banks. This structure has become a place where people come to appreciate the wildlife that shares the landscape.

You can reach the area through marked trails starting from Highbury Road or Drummies Bridge Reserve, which connect to the broader Dandenong Creek Trail system. Wear sturdy shoes since the ground can be wet or muddy depending on the season.

Cattle continue to graze in designated sections, naturally keeping grass levels down while maintaining long-standing farming traditions. This approach shows how farming and nature conservation can work together in a modern reserve.
