Lauriston Reservoir, reservoir in Victoria, Australia
Lauriston Reservoir is a large water storage area on the Coliban River, surrounded by trees and farmland in Victoria. The water holds various fish species including redfin, brown trout, Murray cod, and other freshwater fish.
The reservoir was built between 1938 and 1941 to supply water to the region. Originally, smaller reservoirs on the Little Coliban River provided water to Kyneton, but Lauriston took over this role as the main supply for local communities.
The reservoir sits on land belonging to the Dja Dja Wurrung people, and Coliban Water acknowledges their connection to this place. Visitors experience a quiet setting with trees and wildlife where locals come to relax, fish, and spend time with family.
The site is open daily from early morning until dusk and offers picnic tables, toilets, parking, and free electric barbecues in designated areas. Visitors should stay on marked paths, take their rubbish with them, and watch for uneven ground and falling branches.
The water is regularly stocked with certain fish species to maintain good fishing conditions, and beginners can learn tips from local experts for better catches. This makes it a welcoming place to learn fishing with flies, bait, or lures.
