Hume Weir Motor Racing Circuit, Motor racing circuit in Lake Hume, Australia.
Hume Weir Motor Racing Circuit was a racing track carved into a former quarry near the Murray River at Lake Hume in Victoria. The circuit stretched roughly 1.6 kilometers and used the stone extraction site to host motorsport events.
Stone from this site was extracted between 1919 and 1931 to build the Hume Weir. The location was converted into a racing circuit in 1959 and operated until the mid-2000s when dam construction work caused significant damage.
The circuit became a center for motorsport competitions, hosting multiple rounds of the Australian Formula 2 Championship during its operational period from 1959 to 1977.
Access to the site today is difficult and the terrain has been significantly altered by construction work. Visitors should expect little to see of the original racing circuit.
The circuit hosted several rounds of the Australian Formula 2 Championship and was an important venue for national motorsport competition. Between major events, the venue also served as a stage for Alpine Rally competitions.
