Routeburn Classic

The Routeburn Classic is a mountain running competition that spans 32 kilometers along a famous hiking track in New Zealand. The route passes through two national parks and climbs 1,127 meters through native forests and alpine environments.

The competition was founded in 2001 and was taken over by Ultimate Events in 2023. The event has maintained its standing as an important part of New Zealand's running community.

The race connects people with New Zealand's natural heritage as they move through protected landscapes of Fiordland National Park, part of a World Heritage Area. Participants experience the land in a way that many locals value and protect for future generations.

The event limits participation to 400 runners to protect the environment and maintain the experience. It is wise to register early and prepare required gear carefully, as the mountain terrain is demanding.

The course follows the entire Routeburn Track, a well-known multi-day hiking route, which gives the run a distinctive path. The limit of 400 participants makes this an exclusive experience within the mountain running community.
