Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, Urban renewal project in Christchurch, New Zealand
Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre is a venue in downtown Christchurch designed for large gatherings and conferences. It features a 1400-seat auditorium, multiple conference rooms, River Rooms that each hold 500 people, and a banquet hall with 1000 seats for various events.
The facility was built by the New Zealand Government after the 2011 earthquake destroyed the previous convention centre. It became part of the city's major reconstruction effort and represents Christchurch's recovery and renewal.
The name Te Pae comes from the Maori language and reflects the building's connection to local culture. The design incorporates patterns inspired by the braided rivers of the Canterbury region, bringing this natural landscape feature into the interior.
The centre is located in downtown Christchurch and is easily accessible by public transport or car. The modern facilities can be configured in various ways to accommodate small meetings or large events, making it simple to find the right spaces for your needs.
The reception area features an illuminated artwork called Hana by sculptor Loni Hutchinson, installed alongside timber columns and a marble desk. This piece does more than decorate the space and connects visitors to the local art scene and the spirit of renewal.
