Our City is a Queen Anne style building located at the intersection of Worcester Street and Oxford Terrace in Christchurch. The distinctive structure features two terracotta sculptures on its facade representing Industry and Concord.
The building was completed in 1886 and initially served as offices for Christchurch City Council. Over the decades it witnessed the city's growth and administrative development.
The building is called 'Our City' and represents Christchurch's hope after the 2011 earthquake. Visitors can see how the community has redefined its identity and unity through this restored place.
The building is centrally located and easily accessible on foot from both adjacent streets. The surrounding area provides ample space to explore and nearby cafes and shops for lingering.
The terracotta sculptures on the facade were created by British sculptor George Frampton, a notable artist of his era. These works reveal the international connections Christchurch maintained during its early development.
