The Arts Centre stands along the Avon River, featuring a brutalist architectural design with a main auditorium that seats 2,250 people.
The facility opened in 1972 and underwent extensive reconstruction following the 2011 earthquake, reopening in 2019 after a $127.5 million restoration project.
The venue hosts orchestral performances, opera productions, ballet shows, and musical events while serving as the permanent home for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
The complex contains multiple function spaces including the James Hay Theatre with 750 seats, conference rooms, and dedicated areas for different types of performances.
The auditorium incorporates specialized reflection panels designed by Professor Harold Marshall to create exceptional acoustic properties throughout the performance space.
