Bar Bodega, Live music venue in Te Aro, Wellington, New Zealand

Bar Bodega was a music venue that from 2001 occupied a former Nestlé factory and warehouse on Ghuznee Street in Te Aro. Before that it stood in a house marked for demolition by Transit New Zealand, kept in a makeshift state under a short-term lease until the motorway extension began.

The venue was founded in 1991 and later relocated to a former factory building on Ghuznee Street. This move in 2001 allowed it to grow into a larger and more permanent home for live music.

The venue functioned as a launching pad for New Zealand bands to reach audiences and build followings. Local musicians viewed this spot as a key place to develop their careers and connect with listeners.

Bar Bodega closed in 2016, so there are no shows to plan around; the Ghuznee Street building, a former Nestlé factory and warehouse, can be seen from the street. The original 1991 venue was a house marked for demolition by Transit New Zealand for a motorway extension, and that site was bought by restaurateurs Lorenzo and Leonardo Bresolin in 2014.

A now-famous international rock band performed one of their early shows here, connecting this local spot to global music history. Such early performances showed how smaller venues could become important stops for bands on the rise.
