Upper Harbour Bridge, Road bridge in Auckland, New Zealand.
The Upper Harbour Bridge is a road bridge spanning the Waitematā Harbour, connecting Hobsonville to Greenhithe on Auckland's North Shore. The structure consists of two parallel spans with five lanes combined and separate paths for cyclists and pedestrians.
The first bridge structure was completed in 1975 to handle growing traffic between the communities. A second parallel bridge was built between 2005 and 2006 to increase capacity.
The bridge development represents a milestone in New Zealand engineering, demonstrating the advancement of infrastructure solutions in the Auckland metropolitan area.
Pedestrian and cycle paths run along the northern side, offering direct access for non-vehicle users. The crossings are clearly marked and visibility across the bridge is generally good.
In 1986 the structure gained attention when A.J. Hackett conducted initial tests for commercial bungee jumping from it. This marked a turning point in the history of extreme sports and adventure tourism.
