Cape Reinga / Te Rerenga Wairua, Coastal headland at the northern tip of North Island, New Zealand
The lighthouse at Cape Reinga stands on cliffs where the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea meet, creating visible patterns in the water.
The navigation point received its name during Abel Tasman's voyage in 1642, while the lighthouse started operations in 1941 to guide ships.
Māori people consider Te Rerenga Wairua a sacred place where spirits travel through an ancient pohutukawa tree before entering the afterlife.
The Department of Conservation maintains an 800-meter walking track from the parking area to the lighthouse, with informational signs along the path.
The spring Te Waiora-a-Tāne near the cape emerged at the cliff base after its original location was capped during religious conversions.
