Miss Traill's House, Heritage house museum in Bathurst, Australia
Miss Traill's House is a Victorian building made of red Bathurst brick on Russell Street that shows colonial architecture from the 1840s. The house contains several rooms with original furnishings and a garden with historical plants.
A clergyman named Thomas Sharpe built the house in 1845, and it was later used as a girls school called Wyoming Lodge. Ida Traill purchased it in 1937 and made it the place we know today.
The house preserves memories of how wealthy residents lived in the 1800s through its collection of furniture, ceramics, and personal objects. The rooms show how people arranged their homes and spent their time with horses and social activities.
Visiting works best on weekends when the house is open for tourists and guided tours are offered. The location is central to Bathurst and easy to reach, with parking available near the street.
The garden holds rose varieties that have grown on the property for more than 100 years and represent a living connection to the house's past. These old plants are often older than many of the objects inside the house.
