Denfield

Denfield is a sandstone brick homestead featuring symmetrical Georgian colonial design with a timber verandah located in St. Helens Park. The property includes a main house connected by a roofed passage to the kitchen block, along with additional structures spread across the grounds.

The original house was built between 1835 and 1837 by John Farley, who had arrived from England in 1812. The roofed connection between the main house and kitchen block was added after construction began, reflecting changes to the property's layout over time.

The site holds meaning as a place where colonial settlement transformed indigenous lands of the Tharawal people. Visitors walking through the grounds encounter the physical markers of this historic shift in how the territory came to be occupied and shaped.

The outbuildings on the grounds show how work was organized in the 1800s and require attention to uneven terrain while exploring. Comfortable shoes and time to walk through the different areas will help you get the most from a visit.

John Farley became known locally as one of the first to report seeing Fisher's Ghost, a tale that became embedded in regional folklore. This connection to the legend gives the property a place in the area's popular stories and supernatural traditions.
