Alexandria, Administrative division in Sydney, Australia
Alexandria is a suburb in the inner south of Sydney, situated about 5 kilometers from the central business district within the City of Sydney. The area features a mix of residential neighborhoods, smaller industrial zones, and varied street layouts that create different sections throughout the suburb.
The area began as a parish in 1835, named after British military victories, and became its own municipality in 1868 when it separated from Waterloo. This transition marked its development as an independent local area.
The Serbian Orthodox church and Yiu Ming Temple reflect how different communities shape this neighborhood and coexist in its streets. Walking around, you can see these places of worship alongside each other.
Multiple bus routes and railway stations connect the area to central Sydney, making it easy to travel in and out. Most neighborhoods are accessible on foot or by public transport.
During the 1940s, this suburb became Australia's largest industrial district with factories across the area. Remnants of this manufacturing past are still visible in the buildings and street patterns today.
