Fullers Bridge, Road bridge in Chatswood West, Australia
Fullers Bridge is a road bridge made of concrete that spans the Lane Cove River and connects the suburbs of Chatswood and North Ryde in New South Wales. The structure carries Delhi Road traffic and includes a timber walkway on its upstream side, supported by steel cantilever beams for pedestrian access.
Completed in 1918, this bridge was named after the Fuller family who operated a farm along the river banks during the late 1800s. It pioneered design as the first continuous reinforced concrete girder bridge in the region.
The structure represents a milestone in New South Wales engineering as the first continuous reinforced concrete girder bridge in the region.
The bridge can be crossed by car on Delhi Road or on foot using the timber walkway on the upstream side. Access is available from both ends, with the pedestrian area clearly separated from vehicle traffic.
The bridge's piers feature distinctive octagonal columns with four tapered buttresses, a design choice that was uncommon for its era. This structural approach sets it apart visually from other crossings of the same period.
