Kingaroy Peanut Silos, Agricultural storage facility in Kingaroy, Australia.
The Kingaroy Peanut Silos are three concrete structures on Haly Street that rise 42 meters high and held storage space for 16,000 tonnes of peanuts. The towers feature mechanical systems across different levels that allowed efficient storage and handling of nuts before they moved to processing.
The Queensland Peanut Marketing Board commissioned these storage buildings between 1938 and 1951 to support growing peanut production in the region. Their construction reflected the rising importance of peanut farming to Australia's agricultural economy.
The silos represent Kingaroy's identity as the Peanut Capital of Australia and show how closely the community's pride is tied to its agricultural heritage. Walking around the structures, you can feel how central peanut farming has been to the town's development.
The site is easily accessible and offers good views of the structures from street level, particularly in morning light. Comfortable shoes are recommended if you plan to walk around the area to get different perspectives of the towers.
A fire in 1951 destroyed the original Silo No. 1 and stopped peanut production across Australia for over a year. This event shows how critical this single facility was to the nation's peanut supply.
