Francis Lookout

Francis Lookout is a cemetery situated on a hilltop at 157 Dewar Terrace with views across Brisbane towards Mount Coot-tha. The grounds contain burial sites and are maintained as a park where visitors can walk freely.

The burial ground was established in 1863 when the Francis family, early settlers, set aside land for burials. A turning point came in 1902 with the construction of a timber lychgate decorated with intricate carvings.

The burial ground holds graves of families who shaped Corinda's early years. These names on the headstones tell the story of people who built their lives in this area.

The grounds are open to the public and maintained by Brisbane City Council. The hilltop location allows visitors to explore the area while enjoying the surroundings.

A distinctive feature is the wooden lychgate from 1902 with elaborately carved boards that friends of Angela Francis commissioned to honor her husband. This handcrafted work reflects the personal bonds within the community.
