The Walter Taylor Bridge extends 299.7 meters across the Brisbane River, connecting the suburbs of Indooroopilly and Chelmer through a dual carriageway system.
The bridge, completed in 1936, incorporated steel cables from the construction phase of Sydney Harbour Bridge and operated as a toll crossing until the 1960s.
The bridge represents Queensland engineering innovation during the 1930s economic downturn, providing employment and establishing new transportation infrastructure in Brisbane.
The bridge carries motor vehicles and pedestrians between Brisbane's western suburbs, with scheduled maintenance closures of the footpath from August to September 2024.
The bridge towers contain residential spaces, making it the only inhabitable bridge structure in the Southern Hemisphere until the last residents moved out in 2010.
