Conondale Timbers Sawmill, Heritage-listed sawmill in Conondale, Australia.
Conondale Timbers Sawmill is a timber production facility established in the 1930s, situated along Aherns Road in the Sunshine Coast Region. The site contains a main production building, several machinery sheds, and five workers' cottages arranged across the grounds.
The facility was built in the 1930s by M R Hornibrook Ltd and supplied timber for the construction of the Hornibrook Highway Bridge, which connects Redcliffe Peninsula to Brisbane. This work was part of a larger infrastructure development along Queensland's north coast.
The sawmill demonstrates how timber processing shaped community life in this region for generations. Visitors can see the workers' cottages scattered across the site, revealing how families lived and worked side by side.
The facility remains operational today, and visitors can see working machinery that demonstrates timber processing methods. Wear comfortable footwear and allow time to explore the various buildings and understand how each section functioned.
A former ship's crane from the bridge construction period still stands on the grounds, revealing the engineering methods of that era. This artifact directly links the sawmill to the larger infrastructure project it supplied materials for.
