Mooloolaba, Coastal administrative division in Sunshine Coast, Australia
Mooloolaba is a coastal suburb along the Coral Sea, bordered by the Mooloolah River to the south and Alexandra Headland to the north. The area features sandy beaches, a busy waterfront promenade, and working harbors with fishing vessels.
The name changed from Mooloolah Heads to Mooloolaba in 1919 when Thomas O'Connor subdivided the land for sale. The name originates from the Aboriginal word mulu, referring to snapper fish.
The Esplanade is the social center, lined with restaurants, galleries, and shops where locals and visitors naturally gather. You'll find people strolling, dining, and enjoying the coastal setting throughout the day.
Coaches arrive from Brisbane and trains connect via Nambour station, while Sunshine Coast Airport is a short drive away. The Esplanade is easy to walk along, and the area has ample public parking and beach facilities.
The Mooloolaba Marina houses a working fishing fleet and operates alongside the Mooloolah State Boat Harbour. These two harbors are central to local fishing operations and shape the working waterfront character of the place.
