Port Curtis Sailing Club Clubhouse, Heritage sailing clubhouse in Gladstone, Australia

The Port Curtis Sailing Club Clubhouse is a two-story building at 1 Goondoon Street featuring a large hipped roof and timber framing. Interior spaces include dining areas, boat storage, meeting rooms, and outdoor decks overlooking the water.

Constructed between 1949 and 1959, the clubhouse became the hub for the first Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race. This period marked a turning point in organized sailing events throughout the region.

Members and volunteers of the sailing club contributed materials and labor to construct the clubhouse, creating a strong community foundation for maritime activities.

The building has multiple levels that are straightforward to navigate, with clear zones for different activities. Keep in mind that this is an active sailing club, so certain areas may have limited access during event times.

Architect Philip Hanman designed this as one of Queensland's earliest postwar club buildings. The dedicated race plotting and tracking spaces inside show how seriously organizers approached sailing competitions.
