Fig Tree, Gladstone, Heritage fig tree in Gladstone, Australia.
The Fig Tree in Gladstone is a large fig tree with a wide canopy located at the intersection of Roseberry and Auckland Streets. It sits protected as a heritage-listed site and features a wooden seat and interpretive plaque for visitors.
James Friend, a local businessman and former mayor, planted this tree in 1903 near his residence. It gained heritage protection status in December 2003 in recognition of its connection to early settlement.
The tree serves as a landmark where locals and visitors rest in its generous shade, creating a quiet gathering point in the town center.
The tree stands at the corner of Roseberry and Auckland Streets in the town center, making it easy to visit on foot. Shade from the canopy and a wooden seat offer a comfortable rest spot during your walk through town.
The tree's massive trunk has become thicker over more than 120 years, and shade-loving plants have naturally gathered around its base. This creates a small garden effect that many visitors find unexpected in the middle of town.
