The mature Ficus benjamina reaches 12 meters in height with a wide canopy spread of 37 meters at the corner of Roseberry Street.

James Friend, a local businessman and former mayor of Gladstone, planted this fig tree in 1903 near his residence called Elonera House.

The tree stands as a testament to early settlement patterns in Queensland, earning recognition on the Queensland Heritage Register in December 2003.

Visitors can find the tree at the intersection of Roseberry and Auckland Streets, where a wooden seat and information plaque provide details.

The tree's trunk measures 660 centimeters in circumference, while shade-loving shrubs grow around its base near government office buildings.
