St Lawrence Police Station, Heritage police station in St Lawrence, Queensland.
St Lawrence Police Station is a T-shaped wooden building with a gable roof made of corrugated iron, standing on low stumps with verandahs on three sides. Inside are two separate holding cells with concrete-set porcelain toilets that remain in use today.
Built between 1878 and 1880, the station replaced an earlier slab building from 1866. It originally served as both a courthouse and police facility for the growing community.
The building exemplifies the development of law enforcement infrastructure in rural Queensland during the late nineteenth century colonial period.
The building is accessible during normal operating hours and located near the town center. Since it functions as an active police station, visitors should check usual opening times.
The former courtroom still holds original items from its judicial past, including a restraining device for detainees. These artifacts offer insight into 19th-century legal practices.
