St John's Church, Rockhampton

St John's Church is a timber-framed building with Gothic-style windows and a gable roof topped with cross finials located on Ford Street. The structure features a simple but distinctive design suited to its role as a place of worship for the community.

The original mission room was established in 1896 to serve the South Sea Islander workers who had arrived in the region. The present building was constructed in 1912 to replace this earlier structure and better accommodate the growing community.

This church serves as a central gathering place for the South Sea Islander community that settled in the area during the 1860s and continues to be central to their spiritual life today. The building reflects their enduring presence and faith practices in the region.

The church is located on a street-facing block with clear access points and landscaped grounds that are pleasant to walk through. Visitors may find access limited during worship services, so planning a visit outside of these times is recommended.

Two pine trees frame the entrance and create a distinctive visual landmark for the building at street level. A silver wattle tree that has stood since the original 1912 landscaping adds to the historic character of the gardens surrounding it.
