Ella Bay National Park, Nature reserve in Cassowary Coast, Australia
Ella Bay National Park is a nature reserve along the Queensland coast featuring dense tropical rainforest and forested hillsides. The park stretches along the bay with varying landscapes from flat coastal areas to elevated forest regions.
The area was officially designated as a protected reserve in 1994 and placed under the management of the Queensland Department of Environment and Science. The designation recognized the importance of this coastal forest and its natural resources.
The Bagirbarra clan of the Mamu peoples inhabited this region, following seasonal patterns and gathering resources from the land and waters.
The best way to reach the park is via Flying Fish Point and Ella Bay Road from southern coastal towns. The journey requires planning since the area is relatively remote and access is on foot or with limited vehicle access.
The area is home to hundreds of animal and plant species, many of them rare or facing extinction. This variety makes the park an important refuge for specialized forest organisms.
