Kula Eco Park, Wildlife conservation park in Sigatoka, Fiji.
Kula Eco Park is a zoo and conservation park in Sigatoka, on the Fijian island of Viti Levu, focused on native wildlife in a forested setting. A network of raised wooden boardwalks winds through the trees and connects different sections where birds, reptiles, and marine animals can be seen at close range.
The site opened in the 1980s as a bird park focused on native Fijian species. Kula Management took over in 1997 and gradually turned it into a broader conservation center covering a wider range of animals.
The park takes its name from the Fijian word for a type of bird, and its collection focuses on species that are part of everyday life and storytelling in the islands. Watching the keepers interact with the animals gives visitors a sense of how local people relate to the wildlife around them.
The park can be explored at your own pace along the boardwalks, and no guide is required to move through the different sections. A morning visit tends to give you the best chance of seeing the animals active and moving around.
In 2004, the park recorded the first successful captive breeding of the Kadavu musk parrot ever documented anywhere in the world. This parrot is found only on the island of Kadavu and is rarely seen even by people living in Fiji.
