East Molokai Volcano, Shield volcano in Maui County and Kalawao County, Hawaii, United States
The East Molokai Volcano stretches across 70 kilometers in width and reaches an elevation of 1210 meters at its highest point, Kamakou peak.
The volcanic formation began two million years ago and concluded around 1.5 million years ago, with the last eruptions occurring on the Kalaupapa Peninsula.
The mountain holds significance in Native Hawaiian traditions, with each section of the volcano corresponding to specific land divisions called ahupuaa.
Access to certain areas of the volcano requires government permission, particularly in Kalawao County, which maintains strict visitation regulations through official tours.
The northern flank features 900-meter cliffs created by a massive landslide that generated a 600-meter megatsunami, impacting areas from Hawaii to California.
