Mokuʻula, Historical Island in Hawaii
Mokuʻula was the royal residence of Maui's rulers.
It functioned as the political and spiritual center of the Hawaiian Kingdom in the 19th century.
This site is considered sacred by Native Hawaiians.
Currently, Mokuʻula is undergoing restoration to bring the site back to prominence.
Once an island within a freshwater pond, it has been buried under a county park.
