Kualoa Ranch, Working ranch in Oahu, United States
Kualoa Ranch is a working farm spanning 4,000 acres across three valleys on Oahu's windward coast, mixing mountains, tropical forest, and ancient fishponds. The property consists of open grassland, wooded areas, and natural rock formations that create varied terrain for exploration.
The ranch was purchased from King Kamehameha III in 1850 by Dr. Gerrit P. Judd, initially operating as a sugarcane plantation before transitioning to cattle ranching. This shift in purpose marked the beginning of its current identity as a working livestock operation.
The land holds deep meaning in Hawaiian tradition, with local communities historically viewing it as a sacred place where ancestors once lived and farmed. The names of the valleys reflect how closely the Hawaiian people connected to this territory.
The ranch offers a range of guided activities including movie location tours, horseback riding, zip-lining, ATV rides, and e-bike trips through the valleys. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water since the terrain is hilly and the sun can be intense throughout the day.
The site has served as a filming location for more than 200 movies and television productions, including major franchises like Jurassic Park and Kong: Skull Island. Visitors can see the exact landscapes used in these productions while touring the property.
