Kenai Fjords National Park

The park encompasses 683 square miles of glacial landscapes, including the extensive Harding Icefield feeding 38 glaciers that flow toward the Gulf of Alaska.

The area received federal protection in 1978 as a national monument before being designated as a national park in 1980 under the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act.

The coastal regions of the park were inhabited by Alutiiq people who developed maritime hunting techniques and established settlements along these nutrient-rich waters.

Visitors can access the park through Seward, located 130 miles south of Anchorage, with the Exit Glacier area providing the only road entrance to the park.

The park contains numerous tidewater glaciers that create deep fjords when massive ice formations carve through mountains and descend directly into the ocean.
