Access requires a water taxi crossing Kachemak Bay, followed by a walk through forested terrain to reach the glacier. The ice surface is uneven and slippery, so visitors should move carefully and stay on marked routes.
The meltwater from the glacier carries intense blue color from compressed ice and collects in a lake below the main ice mass. The lake fills with detached icebergs in various sizes throughout the summer season.
