Wiley Post–Will Rogers Memorial Airport, Public airport in Utqiaġvik, Alaska, United States
Wiley Post–Will Rogers Memorial Airport is a public airport in Utqiaġvik, Alaska, located in the far north of the United States. The facility has a 7,100-foot asphalt runway at an elevation of 49 feet and serves commercial and private aircraft.
The airport was named after aviator Wiley Post and humorist Will Rogers, who died in an airplane crash near Point Barrow in 1935. This tragedy eventually led to naming this important transportation hub in the Arctic region after the two men.
This airport connects Alaska Native communities of the North Slope region to the outside world, allowing the transport of supplies and services to this remote area. For local residents, this transportation hub is a lifeline that provides access to resources not reachable by land.
The airport has fuel services for 100LL and JET-A1, along with basic maintenance facilities for minor aircraft work. Visitors should check weather conditions ahead of time, as operations in the Arctic can be affected by seasonal changes.
Located at 71 degrees north latitude, this is the northernmost public airport in all of US territory. At this extreme location, visitors can see the special challenges of Arctic aviation and how infrastructure adapts to such harsh conditions.
