Rolling Hills Estates

Rolling Hills Estates is a residential city on the northern side of Palos Verdes Peninsula, spanning roughly 9 square kilometers with homes of varying sizes. Distinctive features include numerous equestrian trails running through neighborhoods and many properties designed to accommodate horses.

The area was originally part of Rancho San Pedro, owned by Manuel Domínguez, before becoming an incorporated city in 1957 as the 60th municipality of Los Angeles County. This transformation from ranchland into a separate municipality shaped its current layout with spacious lots and extensive riding trails.

The community comes together through regular local events and shared equestrian trails that weave through neighborhoods, creating a strong sense of connection among residents. This way of life reflects a deliberate choice for a more rural character, despite being close to the urban sprawl of Los Angeles.

The city has a local sheriff's station and is accessible for visitors wanting to explore the neighborhoods. Since it is primarily residential with limited commercial facilities, visitors should plan to handle necessary errands in nearby areas.

The area was historically known as a center for breeding and showing horses, and traces of this tradition remain visible in the design of many properties. Though this focus has shifted over time, the stable facilities and wide riding paths still reflect this past specialization.
