Colorado Street Bridge, Deck arch bridge in Pasadena, United States.
The Colorado Street Bridge is a concrete arch structure that crosses the Arroyo Seco canyon in southern Pasadena. Twelve arches support the roadway deck, which sits about 150 feet (46 meters) above the streambed below.
Construction finished in 1913, connecting neighborhoods separated by a canyon that had been difficult to cross. The bridge carried Route 66 traffic for four years starting in 1936, before the highway alignment changed.
The structure appears in numerous films, including Charlie Chaplin's 'The Kid' and the 2016 motion picture 'La La Land'.
The best views of the arches come from trails at the bottom of the canyon, reached via West Holly Street and North Arroyo Boulevard. Pedestrians crossing on the roadway should use the narrow sidewalk and stay alert to passing cars.
During construction, horse carts hauled concrete and steel down steep slopes into the canyon because other transport methods were unavailable. The project consumed over 11,000 cubic yards (8,400 cubic meters) of concrete and more than 600 tons (544 metric tons) of steel over many months of work.
