Old Town Pasadena, Historic district in Pasadena, California
Old Town Pasadena is a historic district spanning 22 blocks with approximately 200 commercial buildings dating from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, primarily lining Colorado Boulevard. The structures showcase ornate architectural styles ranging from Victorian to Art Deco, featuring detailed stonework and decorative facades.
The district declined from the 1940s through the 1970s before a major revitalization effort began in the 1980s, restoring the historic character of the area. This renewal project transformed the district back into a thriving commercial and cultural center.
The district serves as the backdrop for the annual Tournament of Roses Parade, drawing crowds who gather along the streets to watch elaborate floats and marching bands. This event has become deeply woven into the identity of the place and the broader region.
The area offers ample parking throughout and easy access by public transportation. Visitors should be prepared to walk several blocks to explore the different neighborhoods and shops spread throughout the district.
The Castle Green, built in 1898, stands out as an architectural marvel combining Mediterranean and Moorish design elements in a single structure. This distinctive building originally served as a luxury hotel and remains a focal point when walking through the district.
