Tijuana International Airport, International airport in Tijuana, Mexico
Tijuana International Airport sits in the Mexican border city and connects two countries through its location directly adjacent to California. Its two terminals offer arrival and departure halls with a total of 23 gates serving daily flights to Mexico, the United States, and beyond.
The facility opened in 1951 with a single building serving the growing travel demand between Mexico and the United States. A second terminal was built in 1970, while the original structure was later taken over by the Mexican Armed Forces.
The terminal buildings incorporate elements of both Mexican and American design influences, reflecting the cross-border nature of the region.
Currency exchange, cash machines, restaurants, and shops can be found in both terminal buildings and help pass the time during waits and short layovers. Taxis and rental cars are available outside the exits, while signage in Spanish and English helps with navigation.
A pedestrian bridge called Cross Border Xpress connects the Mexican terminal directly to a facility on the US side in San Diego and allows travelers to cross the border without additional formalities. This bridge spans roughly 390 feet (120 meters) and significantly shortens the journey between the two countries.
