Balboa Peninsula

Balboa Peninsula is a strip of land between Newport Harbor and the Pacific Ocean, with wide sandy beaches and waterfront paths connecting different areas. The neighborhood has homes, shops, and restaurants scattered along the shore, creating a mix of residential and commercial spaces.

The McFadden family established a shipping business in 1888 and built McFadden Wharf, which became Newport Pier. This early commercial activity set the foundation for the area to grow from a simple harbor into a residential neighborhood.

The Balboa Pavilion has served as a gathering place where locals and visitors meet for concerts and community events throughout the year. You'll find people enjoying meals at nearby restaurants, walking along the pier, and spending time together as the sun sets.

You can explore the peninsula on foot or by bicycle, with rental shops available throughout the area. Summer brings more visitors, so going early in the day or on weekdays offers a more relaxed experience.

The Wedge at the peninsula's southern end creates unusual wave patterns from the way water hits a rock formation beneath the surface. Surfers seek this spot when conditions align, as the waves can reach dramatic sizes that aren't found elsewhere in the area.
