Menifee is a residential city in Riverside County in southern California that extends about 30 miles southeast of Riverside. Interstate 215 runs through the city from north to south and connects the different residential neighborhoods together.
Luther Menifee Wilson discovered a gold deposit in this area during the 1880s and gave the location its name. The official incorporation happened only in 2008 after a vote by local residents.
The city grew quickly after incorporation in 2008 and now attracts young families from across the region. Many residents commute daily to nearby cities for work and use Interstate 215 as their main route.
The city sits between Los Angeles and San Diego and is accessible by car from both major cities. Schools and a community college are spread throughout the urban area.
Before incorporation as an independent city this area was popular with retirees for several decades. Today the city ranks among the fastest growing residential areas in California with many new homes.
