Double Butte features two distinct peaks, with the western summit reaching 2,579 feet and the eastern summit standing at 2,480 feet in elevation.
The eastern ridge of Double Butte contains metamorphic rock formations from the Triassic-Jurassic French Valley period, while the remaining range consists of Cretaceous granitic rock.
The mountain serves as a reference point for local outdoor enthusiasts who frequently document the changing landscapes and geological features through photography and field studies.
Visitors can access two separate hiking trails on the mountain, with one path leading to the peak and another following the western face of the formation.
