Hemet Maze Stone, Ancient petroglyph site near Hemet, California, United States
The stone features an intricate maze pattern with two rectangular boxes centered within each other, measuring 24 inches in width and height.
Discovered by a rancher in 1914, the petroglyph was determined to be at least 500 years old based on nearby artifacts and research.
The stone contains geometric patterns that differ from typical Native American petroglyphs, which generally depict animals or natural elements.
Visitors can access the site at the end of California Avenue, north of Highway 74, though protective fencing restricts close contact.
Only 50 similar carvings exist within a 150-mile radius of this stone, making it part of a limited collection of prehistoric art.
