Lake Perris, State recreation lake in Riverside County, California
Lake Perris is a reservoir in Riverside County covering about 8,200 acres of water and surrounding land with trails, beaches, and recreational areas spread throughout. The lake sits at an elevation of about 478 feet and is ringed by paved roads that provide access to fishing zones, boat launches, and multiple campground facilities.
Construction of Perris Dam was completed in 1973, establishing this reservoir as the southern terminus of the California State Water Project for delivering water to nearby regions. The dam marked a major shift in how water management occurred across Southern California's landscape.
The Ya'i Heki' Regional Indian Museum within the park displays exhibits about the indigenous peoples who lived in the Southern California desert and their deep connection to this landscape.
Two boat launches and multiple campgrounds with full facilities are spread across the area for different visitor preferences and activities. Arriving early in the day, especially on weekends, helps secure good parking spots and convenient access to preferred recreation zones.
The lake supports populations of largemouth bass, rainbow trout, and bluegill that are regularly restocked during winter months. These deliberate restocking efforts make it a favorite destination for anglers seeking year-round fishing opportunities for different species.
